Growing Calendar for Zantedeschia Odessa - Tuber
Delivery: Early March to Late May
The Odessa variety of Calla lily Zantedeschia is a rare, dark and sophisticated variety with its near-black cape-like flowers. These hardy perennial plants are ideal for borders but also containers if you just have a patio.
Odessa enjoys damp soils and is the perfect flower for pondside displays suiting modern ponds in particular. You can grow these in containers too given that the soil is permanently moist.
Odessa is easy-maintenance given that it is given a sunny site and will flower from summer until when the temperatures drop in late autumn. It’s the perfect match to other pond plants like irises and tall lobelia.
Summer-bulb zantedeschias take little time to flower, only taking eight to 10 weeks. Ideal for late spring flower display at around the time of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. Cut some flowers for vases for attractive additions to your home décor.
Summer flowering bulbs, corms and tubers are many and varied. They fit in with most mixed planting schemes.
