Growing Calendar for Tulip Bulbs 'Double Sugar' x6
Delivery: Late September to Late November
Variety with petals that open up just like a peony in spring. What’s more this variety gives off a sweet-sugary scent reminiscent of childhood trips to the sweet shop.
Plant this gorgeous variety in autumn so that in spring you are rewarded with a charming collection of rose-looking tulips.
They look fantastic grown in containers either on their own or planted beneath a larger containerised shrub or tree. Beneath a containerised olive tree or bay they will add a welcome splash of colour in spring before the trees start to grow their fresh set of leaves in earnest.
These tulips make beautiful cut flowers for vases on account of their generous 50cm (20in) stems. Add to bouquets that include freesias and camassias for sophisticated displays.
You can even naturalise these tulips in the lawn for a natural look. The open red blooms contrast perfectly against a rich lawn – a lovely sight on a spring to summer evening.
