  • Pack Contents: 9cm potted shrub
  • Pretty pink flowers from late summer to late autumn
  • Handsome perennial plant – comes back year after year

  • With subtler, less astringent flavour than garlic
  • Excellent pot plant for flower colour in autumn
  • Recommended by the Royal Horticultural Society

Garden-worthy member of the garlic family, society garlic Silver Lace (Tulbaghia violacea) is ideal for planting in pots and containers for charming flowers through the summer and well into November.

The evergreen strappy leaves with white contrasting white veins look perfect when grown with colourful bedding plants. Perfect for the front of flowerbeds or rock gardens too that contain free-draining soil.

Recommended by the Royal Horticultural Society this is a lovely perennial (half-hardy in exposed areas). We recommend you bring under cover over winter.

The fragrance of the leaves puts off unwanted visitors to the garden like rodents, which is useful for allotments where rodents are prone to eating seeds and nibbling young plants.

Society garlic is a fantastic ingredient in the kitchen as well as a pretty flower in the garden: just pick some of the edible leaves and flowers; fantastic for chopping and adding to salads or on jacket potatoes to give a peppery and garlic-like kick. Society garlic is also free of the anti-social odours associated with regular garlic.

50cm (20in)

  • RHS Award of Garden Merit
  • Good in containers and pots
