Grow sweet pepper Tangerine Dream and enjoy picking attractive orange sweet peppers like little rockets in big numbers from July. The peppers really enhance a Mediterranean dish or North African cuisine. Every plant flowers well. Be sure to mist-spray them as well as watering them at the roots.

Your pepper plants perform best in the greenhouse or on a sunny windowsill. Indeed you can put your plants outside too but be cautious if the weather turns and be ready to bring your plants indoors.

How to sow:

From late winter arm yourself with 9cm pots and fill them with seed and cutting compost, suitable for seeds that are just germinating. The compost has just the right proportion of nutrients to keep your seedlings happy.

Position three seeds 0.5cm (1/4in) deep around the edge of a 9cm pot. Water the compost then label and date your pepper Tangerine Dream as a useful reminder of when you sowed them.

Put the pots somewhere that gets 16°C (61°F) of warmth (a thermometer is a handy investment for seed sowing) and keep the soil moist until your seedlings reach a size when they will happily fill a bigger pot. Now every seedling will require a pot of its own to grow successfully. Transplant again into bigger pots by degrees as your peppers grow. Use bamboo canes to support the stems if they start to wilt with the weight of the fruit.
