Growing Calendar for Strawberry Spinach Chenopodium - Plants
Delivery: Early June to Mid June
An easy-grow leafy salad plant, rare and intriguing with all plant parts edible. Pick the spinach-like leaves, having a nourishing nutty taste, starting from baby leaves within the first month after germination and letting the plant grow so you can then pick the mature leaves with body and bite.
In summer strawberry spinach reaches 45cm (18in), comes into flower and then fruits. Harvest the ripe red berries which are sweet and have a unique texture.
After fruiting excavate the parsnip-like roots of strawberry spinach, give them a wash and enjoy them sliced for refreshing salads. Strawberry spinach does not transplant easily because of its long taproot so we suggest you plant this rare vegetable directly into beds or containers where you plan to harvest them in situ.
You receive plants in 12 multi-sown modules, ready for you to plant when you receive them and giving you more than a dozen crops to enjoy on your plot.
Please unpack the plants as soon as you receive them and sit them in a tray of shallow water if they appear to have dried out in transit.
