A cross between a raspberry and strawberry. The Balloon berry is more than just a novelty, it produces large red berries which are as delicious as they are fun. Balloon berries are great for jams and jellies as the flavour gets even better when they are cooked. Easily cultivated and provides excellent ground cover.
Supplied now as a young plant in a 9cm pot, it will overwinter well, putting down a strong root system, ready to grow next year and produce these super sweet fruits in mid-summer.
In spring next year transplant to a large container or grow bed that enjoys a lot of sun, adding some high-potassium plant food for a flower and fruit-boost.
Attractive white flowers appear in the spring and turn to luscious berries throughout the summer from June.
Acting like a low-growing shrub you need only prune it in autumn if you want to keep it in shape. Add some fertiliser like Organic Extra in autumn too to keep up the nutrient levels in the soil.
To early to get a proper review yet but hope to get some good results. These plants are a new venture so looking forward to the produce.
