Growing Calendar for Shallot Sets - Red Sun Autumn Planting
Delivery: Mid September to Late December
A dark skinned variety with vigour, it gives bumper crops of crisp, blush-red bulbs excellent for cooking, or adding to white sauces. Good storage variety.
20 planting bulbs produce 20 full bulbs in summer the following year. That works out to be around 25p for every bulb of home-grown and flavoursome shallot.
How you receive your shallot Red Sun bulbs
Your shallot bulbs arrive to you in mesh bags so the individual bulbs are kept nicely together while air can get to them freely. This keeps them in the best condition they can be when they arrive to you.
Can’t plant straight away?
Shallot bulbs store really well given the right conditions. All you need to do is make sure they are kept in their mesh bags and hung up in a cool, dry place with good air circulation. A semi-heated or connected garage or a loft is perfect. Look to plant within a month.
Onions, shallots and garlic are all Alliums and prone to bolting, especially when the weather's cold and wet when it should be warm and sunny! Here's what to do...
