Runner Bean - Polestar Seeds

  • Catalogue Code 1030-3158
  • Pack Contents: 50x Runner Bean Seeds
  • Edible flowers and beans
  • Ideal for growing in small spaces
  • Freezes well

Polestar gives you tall free-flowering plants perfect for vertical gardening and when space is tight.

Salmon-coloured edible flowers come out in big numbers which turn into bunches of stringless beans reaching an impressive 25cm (10in) in length. Pick them young if you like tender and sweet beans and leave to mature beans if you like them with a deeper flavour and more bite.

Polestar keeps its vigour throughout the season and the flowers set very easily whatever the weather and when pollinator (bees and flies) numbers are low.

We recommend you sow twice for a double dose of beans in one year. Sow in March for mid-summer harvests and in June for an autumn harvest.

25cm / 10in
Sufficient for 25ft / 7.5m Row

  • Will flower well in full sun
  • Suitable for freezing

Popular variety, with high yields of stringless beans.

Sow Indoors: May-June singly in clean pots or modules of compost 2in (5cm) deep. Water well.

Sow Outdoors: May-June direct into the required harvest position, 2in (5cm) deep, 8in (20cm) apart in double rows 8in (20cm) apart. Leave 18in (46cm) between each double row. Keep soil moist at all times.

Plant Out: Indoor raised crops in June 8in (20cm) apart in double rows 8in (20cm) apart. Leave 18in (46cm) between each double row, when fear of frost has passed, and soil is warm.

Pick young for best flavour. Runner beans require a ''wig wam'' of canes to climb through.

great to have a stringless bean to save time when preparing, easy to grow, I had one in a pot trailing up a fence, nice flavour. Had so much success with one plant I am going to try them all along the fence this year.
