This variety is the perfect ingredient for so many delicious desserts. Loved by our growers, we believe it’s one of the best for stewing and for pies, crumbles and preserves.
Timperley Early is by name and nature the one to pick first, as early as February. In winter you have stalks for warming and comforting puddings like pie. Ideal to see you until the spring and you can continue to pick stalks until June, when you can stew them and have them with ice-cream.
How your plants arrive
You’ll receive rhubarb plants as a ‘crown’. This is a collection of roots and a stump attached which the stalks of rhubarb will grow from. The roots are contained in a bag to keep them nice and moist while transported from our nursery to your home to keep them in the best condition for you.
The roots are covered in soil wrapped in a polythene bag to keep the roots perfectly humid while transported from our nursery to your home.
Can’t plant straight away?
You can keep your plant together in its plastic wrap for as long as 3-5 days so long as you make sure the root area is nice and humid and the roots feel moist.
Keep your plant in a light, cool position away from full sun like an unheated porch or greenhouse.
Look to planting in their permanent position within 5 days.
The rhubarb crowns looked poor after their journey, but fortunately have survived and are now growing well. They must have been healthy when dispatched as even Yodel did not manage to kill them!!
Good strong crowns growing well.
