Growing Calendar for Pumpkin 'Polar Bear' plants
Delivery: Early June to Mid June
New to 2016. Ghost-white fruit perfect for Halloween! Plants produce large white pumpkins that remain white with age and have excellent size, weighing up 20–25 kg (44-55 lb) with yellow orange flesh. Best grown in raised beds or large containers with plenty of rich, loamy soil.
The orange flesh is perfect in the kitchen for pulping for soups and smoothies and cutting into chunks for roasting.
Give pumpkin plants a lot of space of up to 1 square metre (square yard) to grow and develop. The large foliage is useful in autumn to cover fruit and protect from rainfall.
To protect fruits further from rot that can occur in a wet summer, raise them up on a bed of straw.
Pumpkins are hungry plants so be sure to provide them with rich, loamy soil that contains lots of nutrients and organic matter, like Organic Extra. Water well through the summer from when plants are young to fully grown plants.
Please unpack the plants as soon as you receive them and sit them in a tray of shallow water if they appear to have dried out in transit.
