One of the most reliable forms of this flower-show worthy variety, Meconopsis Lingholm is a delightful perennial blue poppy that boasts blooms of 4in (10cm) in diameter. Perfect for shady sites with moist but not waterlogged soils. Originating in the Himalayas, it withstands the British climate with ease. A great addition to outdoor spaces up and down the country.
Try growing beneath apple or pear trees to add some welcome colour to your kitchen garden or vegetable patch. This perennial flower coming back after year brings in pollinating bees too – this is great news as they are sure to stick around pollinating nearby fruiting vegetables for optimum harvests.
We’d recommend you plant 2 young plants to a container with a 12in (30cm) diameter for creating maximum colour and impact, or at the front of a flowerbed.
Plant up several pots of 2-3 plants for a sight to behold. Pots dotted around the patio will really impress guests – and for such little effort.
Grow in pots with compost suitable for bedding to ensure the plants have the best soil to grow and thrive in. If you grow them in flower beds mix some compost in with the existing soil to give your flowers the best soil to grow in.
If you grow in flowerbeds space plants around 8in (20cm) apart. An area of a yard by a foot (1m by 30cm) will fit around 5 plants.
How your plants arrive
Your plants arrive to you as young plants containing a ‘plug’ of soil with roots running through it and some small green stems and leaves.
Although they are little plants they are the perfect size to get growing fast once you plant them up.
Your flower plants will arrive to you in a sealed plastic container (which acts as a mini-greenhouse) to create a good humid atmosphere for your young plants to thrive and get a really good start to produce you lovely flowers.
Your container comes in a box or padded envelope for extra protection when leaving our nursery to arriving at your home.
Check your plant is in the plastic container, with healthy young leaves.
Can’t plant straight away?
If you cannot plant up your perennial flower plants straight away into their permanent position make sure the plugs of your plants are kept moist at all times.
You can place your plant on a saucer or tray of water so the plug is immersed at the beginning of the day. Keep an eye on it and take it out of the water once the soil is moist from absorbing the water beneath.
Keep your plant in a well-ventilated and light position in its plastic container after giving it water. Look to planting in their permanent position within 5-7 days.
Our products are all grown with the utmost care and to high standards of quality. We regularly check our nursery stock to determine exactly when they will be at the optimum time for despatch.
