Growing Calendar for Mange-tout pea 'Shiraz'
Delivery: Early June to Mid June
Choose this attractive annual mange-tout plant to give vertical interest to your garden vegetable patch or allotment.
You can harvest the delicious sweet pods from August and into September. Alternatively you can leave the pods on the plants for ornamental interest; the rich purple pods complementing the green stems perfectly.
Being a leguminous plant, mange-tout Shiraz will naturally introduce nitrogen-rich compounds into the soil. This is great for leafy crops such as brassicas, grown in the soil the following season.
The rich-purple pods lose colour when steamed but not their sweetness. Consider harvesting mange-tout pea Shiraz and using raw for salads or steamed to accompany tasty fish dishes.
