Growing Calendar for Lily Night Rider - Bulbs
Delivery: Early March to Late May
Get hold of rare lily Nightrider; a rare summer bulb that comes into its own in mid-summer in a sunny spot. Here it will thrive if planted in a good, free-draining soil. (Add a bag of Organic Farm Manure to the existing soil if you are unsure if your existing soil is suitable for bulbs.)
In mid to late summer open black flowers add impact to your borders, containers or given a row on the vegetable plot. With open centres every flower attracts those pollinating insects that turn the flowers of your favourite crops into handsome harvests.
Suitable for cutting, this variety makes ideal flowers for popping in a vase. Paired with the flowers of other summer bulbs like cannas and dahlias you can double the impact of your vase display.
Want displays for longer than one season? Dig up the bulbs in November if it starts getting frosty outdoors. Rinse the soil off the bulbs and leave to dry in the sun for a few hours. Then place in a crate lined with newspaper and bury the bulbs in dry compost to keep the bulbs from drying out completely without being too wet. Over winter in the greenhouse or in a dry shed.
