Lavender Plants French Kew Red

  • Catalogue Code 5120-7207
  • Pack Contents: 5x Young Lavender Plants

This wonderful new variety is has the most unusual crimson-red flowers and looks fantastic in patio pots. Try planting with other French Lavenders with to make a pretty contrast in flower colour, use a a compact hedging plant.

French Lavenders have a denser, stockier habit than traditional varieties like Hidcote or Munstead. The flower stems are thicker and shorter, meaning the flowers sit just above the foliage. Fantastic for forming a denser hedging or for a neater, more formal look.

Why Buy Lavenders?
There's nothing like Lavender for adding traditional cottage-charmto a garden. Lavenders are not only beautifully scented and elegant, but they're adored by bees and butterflies too - you'll find them on the RHS Perfect for Pollinators list.

What's more, they're drought tolerant and very easy to look after too. Lavender plants are virtually maintenance free, only requiring a quick prune in the autumn after the flowers have faded and light dead-heading throughout the summer to encourage more flowers. It's easy to do, just snip off the new growth and flower stems with secateurs, leaving the evergreen foliage in tact.

Young plants need water to grow good roots, but once they're established they barely need any water - perfect if you live in a hose-pipe ban area.

  • Hardy Perennial - sow indoors or on a seedbed (April-June); transplant later to flower for many seasons
  • Attracts Bees
  • Good in containers and pots
  • Will flower well in full sun

This has now got me confused as I gave two stars to what I thought was for the Red Kew Lavender, but Iíve just noticed this! Anyway the two stars are for the Red Kew which are my favourite lavender, but these died within five days even though I planted them within about ten minutes of them being pushed through the door. The two stars were for the good delivery!

My experience with the Kew Red lavender mirrors exactly what happened with the Thumbelina lavender:iInitially looked healthy but a day after being put into pots, 4 out of the 5 drooped and all but one died. So I am left with one healthy specimen and one that looks like it may be saved with some care.
