Shows good resistance to bruising and splitting in the ground which makes potatoes stronger against diseases. Produces short white-skinned oval tubers with cream floury -textured flesh. Homeguard is a heritage variety from the World War II era, much-loved and established.
A first-early variety, you can look forward to harvests as early as May for bringing into the kitchen for boiling, baking, mashing, roasting and even sautéing.
Grow in direct soil or in special grow bags for potatoes so you can have harvest for yourself even if you just have a balcony or patio.
Have not tried these yet.
My order was a mixed order and all was fine except that the seed potatoes were not as good as some that i had bought locally. Quite a few were cut and soft. Perhaps mail order seed spuds arrive that way. proof will come when they crop. Then I will decide if I'll buy mail order again next year
