Growing Calendar for Fennel Seeds - Florence (Sweet)

Florence Fennel 'Orion' is a sweet Fennel that is grown for its white, slightly flattened bulbs which have an aniseed flavour and for the delicate feathery foliage which is also edible. Delicious either steamed, grilled, roasted, thinly sliced or grated raw to add crunch to crispy salads.
High yielding with decorative feathery foliage that looks great in the flower border!
Produces large, thick, rounded bulbs with a distinct aniseed flavour.
Sow seeds thinly from May to June in rows of 15-18in /38-45cm apart, direct in growing site. Fennel should not be transplanted, thin seedlings when large enough to handle.
Sweet Fennel is an aniseed flavoured bulb.
Sow Outdoors: May-July direct into required harvest postion in rows ½in (1cm) deep and 12in (30cm) apart in a sunny well drained spot.
Thin Out: 12in (30cm) each way.
Plant Out: Fennel does not transplant very well.
Earth up in September or when bulbs start to form.
Good value for seeds as they are expensive in France where we live.
