Neat and tidy pretty plant perfect for the rock garden with white flowers covered in an attractive felt appearing above a cushion of young, green leaves. Get not just a flower from Edelweiss Matterhorn, but a complete bouquet from just one plant. Makes the perfect partner to small tulip species.

In one year just one plant will reach 20cm (8in) in height and spreads to 30cm (12in). We suggest you plant one to two young plants in a 30cm pot for a full display. Treat Matterhorn to a free-draining soil like all-purpose compost and it will reward you will quick growth and lots of flowers.

Edelweiss Matterhorn has more flower heads than other edelweiss plants-being an extra vigorous variety, plus it shows impressive hardiness to UK winter conditions. Edelweiss partners small tulip species like Tulip Johann Strauss perfectly.

Grow edelweiss in a rockery at a density of around three per square metre space. Add small stones to your soil if it is clay-like and shallow to better the conditions for the roots which in turn gives more flowering stems.

Perennial plants are the mainstay of the flower garden; many will flower all summer, becoming dormant in autumn to reappear in spring. Perennials tend to be non-fussy plants and are easy to look after - they just need the old stems cutting back in late autumn, which helps to promote new stems and vigorous growth the following spring, getting bigger and better every year!
