Grow attractive and productive bean Maxi on your vegetable plot which produces long, stringless beans that are held well above the leaves, keeping them clean, visible and very easy to pick.
Great news if you have joint pains and want to harvest quick, easily and painlessly. Forming above the leaves you can see exactly when it’s time to pick them. If you have ever found your French beans have passed their best, before you noticed them hidden among the foliage, then Maxi is the one for you.
Grow directly in your vegetable plot for handfuls of flavoursome beans all summer long. Alternatively grow in pots raised on a table to prevent you from crouching down. Because Maxi is a dwarf variety they reach a height of 45cm (18in).
These short bushy plants give you heavy crops of tasty, slim, fleshy beans. Every plant is resistant to anthracnose, halo blight and mosaic virus which means you can rest assured you are rewarded with untarnished beans every time.
Freeze Maxi after harvesting from autumn if you want supplies to see you though the winter. They make a wholesome ingredient to heart-warming soup and stews once the weather starts turning cold.
Excellent for freezing.
Sow Indoors: April-May, singly in clean pots or modules of compost 2in (5cm) deep. Water well. Keep warm.
Sow Outdoors: May-June, direct into the required harvest position, 2in (5cm) deep, 4in (10cm) apart in rows 10in (25cm) apart. Keep soil moist at all times.
Plant Out: Indoor raised crops May-June 6in (15cm) apart after the risk of frost has passed in rows 10in (25cm) apart.
Harvest: July-September
Pick young beans regularly for best flavour.
