Dwarf French Bean Seeds - Borlotto Lingua di Fuoco Nano

  • Catalogue Code 1030-3121
  • Pack Contents: 50x French Bean Seeds
  • Manageable productive dwarf variety
  • Beans appear right through the summer
  • Suitable for beds or in containers

Sow seeds of this Borlotti-type dwarf French bean in your own kitchen garden and look forward to harvesting pods all summer long and well into September. As it grows to a maximum height of 40cm (1 ½ ft) we recommend you place it at the bottom of other climbing beans so the flowers create double the attraction for nearby bees and other pollinators.

Pick pods early if you love the fresh young green pods to steam or eat raw. As the seasons progress the pods mature and you can pick them for bigger beans which make lovely protein-rich pulses for soups and stews in autumn.

How to sow:

Sow indoors or outdoors to suit your vegetable plot and whether you have a greenhouse to grow seedlings on.

If you have a greenhouse sow seeds indoors in April 2cm (3/4in) deep in individual pots filled with moist, firm seed compost. Place somewhere 16°C (61°F) until transplanting. Keep soil moist at all times.

Alternatively sow outdoors May to July on a moist seed bed 10cm (4in) apart. We recommend you add a sprinkle of pre-planting Pea & Bean fertiliser over the area you are planting and fork lightly into the soil.

Useful tip:

Consider planting a leafy brassica plant like cabbage next year where you are growing your bean plants this year. Bean plants naturally fix nitrogen into the soil which leafy vegetable thrive in as they grow.

40cm / 1.5ft

As already noted, the packets were intact and contain the varieties stipulated, but it will be several months before I can comment on the quality of the plants. This is a clear drawback of asking for feedback so quickly for this type of purchase. Based on previous experience they will be fine.
