Growing Calendar for Dahlia Nicholas - Tuber
Delivery: 5-7 Working Days
Take advantage of impressive decorative dahlia plants that present flowers in soft, relaxing shades of apricot and darker purple centres. Petals in big numbers give your plot punchy flower power starting from July and continuing to the first frosts in autumn or winter.
Plant dahlia Nicholas in flower borders where they can take centre stage. Enhance them with summer flowers like apricot hollyhocks and ornamental grasses. All these come together for a complete orchestra of flowers and perennial plants.
Alternatively plant your tuber in the centre of a container; Dahlia Nicholas makes a great focal plant surrounded by shorter grasses and bedding flowers in apricot/peach colours.
When you receive your bulb-like tuber, plant straight away in a pot filled with a specially-formulated bulb compost like Dalefoot Wool Compost for Bulbs. If you plan to plant in a bed, just add a spadeful or two per square metre of the Wool Compost into the top layer of the existing soil.
If you can’t plant the tuber straight away leave it somewhere cool, dark and airy like an unheated shed. Look to planting your bulb within five to seven days.
These dahlias make great additions to the allotment too; They add colour, bring in pollinating insects that pollinate the flowers of nearby fruiting vegetables. Cut a few for selling on or sharing with fellow gardeners.
