Atena is an extremely prolific variety of courgette. It’s semi-compact bushy plants produce an amass of tasty bright, golden-yellow fruits over a period from June through to late October.
These yellow fruits should be harvested when around 15 – 20cm in length as the skin will still be thin and the flesh very creamy inside. It is very productive and will just keep cropping if the fruits are picked frequently when young.
Yellow courgettes have thinner skin than green varieties and also tend to have a slightly sweeter flavour. They are not quite as available as green varieties in supermarkets as their skin can be marked very easily. This makes growing your own extra special and is a brilliant way to brighten up your plate especially in combination with other brightly coloured vegetables.
