Growing Calendar for Courgette Plants - Goldmine
Delivery: Mid May to Late May
Stripy yellow courgette variety that produces fruiting courgette even without the aid of pollinating insects, so produces huge yields whatever the weather and insect numbers that year. Bumper crops of golden yellow fruits with white stripes and bred in the UK for British weather. Perfect!
You’ll get bumper harvests of dependable Courgette Goldmine whether it’s a good summer or a bad one. Great news when you are at the mercy of the variable British weather.
We recommend you position your small plants outdoors in rich soil. Courgette plants are spreading and like lots of room to grow. Space plants 3ft (90cm) apart in a row or place one plant per trough or container that is at least 1 ½ ft (45cm) in diameter.
If you plant earlier than May, keep an eye on the weather to see if frosts are predicted. Simply place some protective horticultural fleece, which we supply at Marshalls, over the courgette plants in the evenings beforehand.
Keep well-watered after planting and you’ll be picking pretty courgettes every other day through the summer. Courgettes full of flavour and delicious fried with butter and oil.
How your plants arrive
You receive 3 young plants in one pack. Each of your plants arrive to you as young plants containing a ‘plug’ of soil with roots running through them and some small green stems and leaves.
Although they are little they are the perfect size to get growing fast once you plant them up.
Your plants will arrive to you in a sealed plastic wallet or container contained in a bubble-lined envelope or a box for larger orders. The sealed container allows your young plants to stay healthy by giving them an ideal air and root environment when it arrives to you.
Check your 3 plants are there in the plastic container, according to your order.
Can’t plant straight away?
If you cannot plant up your courgette plants straight away into their permanent position make sure the plugs of your plants are kept moist at all times.
You can place your plants on a saucer or tray of water so the plugs are immersed at the beginning of the day. Keep an eye on them and take them out of the water once the soil is moist from absorbing the water beneath.
Keep your plants in a well-ventilated and light position in their plastic wallet after giving them water. Look to planting in their permanent position within 5-7 days.
All six have survived and due for planting out
Please unpack the plants as soon as you receive them and sit them in a tray of shallow water if they appear to have dried out in transit.
