Add twisted red hazel tree Corylus avellana Red Majestic for a punchy permanent structure in your garden in a rare twisted form. Rich red leaves appear in spring after putting on a show of long catkins in winter and edible hazlenuts as summer turns into autumn.
The twisted framework of the tree is reflected in the roots which grow in a gnarled manner underground; this keeps the tree restricted in height and proportional to a typical garden or allotment patch. With something to give every season red Majestic gives you catkins, lovely burnt copper leaves, hazlenuts and even handsome bare stems in winter that provide an attractive silhouette in the low winter sun.
Your Corylus avellana Purple Majestic arrives as a bare-root plant tree in time for you to put in the ground on arrival from autumn to spring. If you need to wait a few days before planting keep your bare-root plant in a shady position and bury the roots in some loose soil.
Grown in a container your tree is likely to reach around 2m (6 ½ ft) maximum. Planted directly in a bed your tree will grow to around 2m in the space of around five years.
If you want to add height to your garden and increase the vertical interest consider planting a tree in your garden. There are trees particularly suited for gardens which don’t grow out of proportion to your property or develop too thick a canopy that blocks out sunlight.
