Chicory 'Apollo' produces white chicons that remain compact even without earthing up.
Usually served in a salad. Try it cooked and served as a vegetable either steamed or stir fried, or braised whole with a little butter or olive oil - Delicious!

Sow Outdoors: May-June thinly ½in (1cm) deep in a prepared seed bed or clean module trays of firm pre watered compost. Keep soil moist at all times.
Thin Out: 6in (15cm) apart.
TO FORCE: Lift plants in October/November, cut off heads 1in (2cm) above the crown. Set 5 roots in a 10in (25cm) pot and cover with a bucket or black plastic bag to exclude all light. Maintain temperature at 10-15°C (50-60°F).
Excellent for braising, steaming or salads.
