Growing Calendar for Cercidiphyllum Japonicum Katsura Tree - 4L Potted Tree
Delivery: Early April to Mid September
Katsura tree Cercidiphyllum japonicum is a gift to your garden. Every year leaves that are heart-shaped appear in spring with a coppery hue and turn butter-yellow over the spring and the summer. Your tree is naturally multi-branched, forming an attractive framework and lots of attractive leaves.
As the leaves grow over summer they give off a rare and pleasant fragrance of toffee apples, perceptible to some, and often more notable in a strong breeze.
It is every autumn when the Katsura tree gives its best performance. The lovely buttery leaves turn different shades of yellow, pinks and oranges and transform your garden perfectly. This dramatic autumn display takes place every year and really packs a punch.
Your plant arrives as an established 4L container tree ready for you to put in the ground on arrival. Should you need to wait a few days before planting, keep your Katsura tree in a shady position and give it plenty of water.
You can plant your 4litre tree directly in the ground with plenty of well-rotted manure incorporated into the soil and it will reach 12m (32ft) in around 15 years. Alternatively grow the Katsura tree in a large container 40+cm (16+in) in diameter with lots of rich soil which restricts its height to a more manageable 2-3m (6 ½-10ft).
If you want to add height to your garden and increase the vertical interest consider planting a tree in your garden. There are trees particularly suited for gardens which don’t grow out of proportion to your property or develop too thick a canopy that blocks out sunlight.
