Growing Calendar for Cabbage Duncan (August despatch) - Plants
Delivery: Late July to Early August
Cabbage Duncan is an excellent 'all round' variety, with great versatility for cooking in many different ways.
It can be harvested in the autumn from an early summer planting, picked as unhearted leafy greens in late autumn from a late August planting, or over wintered and harvested as a whole head in the spring, again from an August planting.
Plants are despatched in late August for cutting in Jan - April.
Planted straight away on arrival in August, this variety can be harvested as delicious leafy greens from late Autumn, or left to develop into a dense head and harvested in the following spring.
On arrival the plants were somewhat drawn up Explanations were given and I must say the plants were otherwise in good condition. I lost one plant out of the whole batch. The others are growing on nicely.
The cabbages arrived by post, just pushed through the door. They were almost dead on arrival. We put in greenhouse and tried to revive them but we lost them all. This is the only time we have been dissatisfied with anything from Marshalls
they were dispatched during a very hot spell of weather they were well watered but had suffered badly from being too hot I unpacked them within seconds of the postman handing them to me and I put them somewhere cool and shady most of them looked dead but some have recovered out of 32 plants I will be lucky if I get 20 cabbages do the dispatch team not get up to date weather forcasts
Please unpack the plants as soon as you receive them and sit them in a tray of shallow water if they appear to have dried out in transit.
