Butternut Squash Seeds - Harrier F1 Hybrid

  • Catalogue Code 1020-2307
  • Pack Contents: 7x Butternut Seeds

An early-maturing British-bred squash producing 4-5 fruits per plant. If you love butternut squash you'll love Harrier, easy to grow and it will leave you coming back for more!

One plant should produce up to 4 to 5 butternut squashes. Grow multiple packets of seeds to have enough squashes for pies, soups and smoothies and well as baked whole squashes.

We recommend you sow indoors from April to May, sowing seeds ½ inch (1cm) deep in individual module seed trays of seed compost, pre-watered and firmed down lightly. Place in a warm environment of 21°C (70°F).

Covering the module tray with a plastic lid and placing on a sunny windowsill or shelf will attain this temperature. Keep compost moist at all times to give your seedlings the best start.

Plant out in June into the plants’ permanent positions. Harden off young plants for a couple of weeks (placing outdoors by day and bring back indoors by night) before planting out in their permanent 36in (90cm) apart when risk of frost has passed.

Alternatively sow outdoors in late May to June ½in (1cm) deep direct into rich soil outdoors, spacing 36in (90cm) apart. Keep the soil moist at all times.

Harvest: October.

Tip: Water soil regularly when flowers are formed and feed with a liquid feed weekly. Plant in a sheltered position in full sun in deep rich soil. Pick regularly when fruit is 8in (20cm). Water regularly so squashes thrive. Once fruits start to swell, feed with a liquid fertiliser.
