Say basil and we immediately think of summer escape and Mediterranean cuisine. And yet, they are so easy to sow and grow for yourself. Your plants last through the summer, unlike the supermarket equivalents you can buy but are not built to last, through unnatural growing conditions.
So enjoy this classic large-leaved, aromatic Italian herb which is excellent for fresh pesto! Use in salads especially with tomatoes, ideal in pasta sauces and goes really well with garlic.
Easy to grow in pots on the kitchen windowsill. We recommend you remove flowering shoots as your plants grow to increase the leafy stems which produce the coveted aromatic leaves.
Sow in seed trays with suitable seed compost and water seed trays by submerging in water baths rather than watering from above.
Superbly aromatic leaves are used in Mediterranean food.
