Baptisia Grape Taffy - 9cm Potted Perennial x1

  • Catalogue Code 5130-1336
  • Pack Contents: 1x 9cm Potted Perennial Plant
  • Early-summer purple pea-flower
  • Adds nitrogen to the soil naturally
  • Copes well in drought

Get hold of false indigo Baptisia variety Grape Taffy; an attractive perennial which puts up tall and confident stems of purple pea flowers. After flowering in June the flowers turn into structural seedpods that look great in the border for the rest of summer and into the winter.

These perennials come out in May and flower for a good month or two, a busy and lively time in your outdoor plot. Baptisia Grape Taffy pairs well with the spring bulbs of tulips, camassias and crown fritillaries, add welcome height to your perennial borders. They also bring in useful pollinating insects like bees and hoverflies which stick around to pollinate fruiting vegetables and the flowers of soft fruit.

Grape Taffy is happy growing in drought once established and is particularly prized for flowering well in dry counties of the East Anglia. Returning year after year this beautiful tall 90cm (3t) pea flower comes back more and more impressive each year.

Because Baptisia Grape Taffy is in the pea family it naturally adds nitrogen to the soil; great news if you want to grow cabbages or leafy vegetables in the vicinity which grow better thanks to this extra nitrogen.

Useful tip:

If you want to grow false indigo Baptisia Grape Taffy in a container, we recommend you plant one in the centre of a 30cm (12in) pot surrounded by a little summer bedding flowers.

Perennial plants are the mainstay of the flower garden; many will flower all summer, becoming dormant in autumn to reappear in spring. Perennials tend to be non-fussy plants and are easy to look after - they just need the old stems cutting back in late autumn, which helps to promote new stems and vigorous growth the following spring, getting bigger and better every year!
