An ornamental sedge in summer and autumn and a harvest of pseudo nuts at first frosts in winter. It’s an aromatic snack that increases its intensity with every nut. Highly nutritious and great to grow in containers or in a row on your allotment.
Avoid nut-allergy with this pseudo ‘nut’ – not a true nut but tubers- much like spuds. Treat them like potatoes too don’t let them dry out while growing and at first frost in early winter lift your plants, harvest the knobbly ‘nuts’ from the roots, -wash and eat fresh or dry them and eat later; they have a different texture and more of a crunch.
How your plants arrive
You receive 1 1.5litre pot plant containing a ball of soil with roots running through it and young stem growth above the soil.
Although they are little they are the perfect size to get growing fast once you plant them up.
Your pot may be wrapped in polythene to give the root zone the ideal humid environment when it arrives to you.
Can’t plant straight away?
If you cannot plant up your tiger nut plant straight away into its permanent position make sure the soil is kept moist at all times.
Look to planting in its permanent position within 5-7 days.
