Sweet potatoes are the tubers of attractive climbing or spreading plant Ipomaea batatas with ornamental heart-shaped leaves and ‘morning-glory’ trumpet flowers, so ideal for decorating the vegetable plot while waiting for ample harvests.
Recent breeding means there’s more than one type of sweet potato available for home-growers, all varieties with their individual characteristics but all equally as nutritious. Try for yourself.
Just grow them on in a sunny position – they’re half hardy so really appreciate the sun and high humidity levels to thrive.

Absolutely fine, it was a hot period when the delivery took place but, fellow gardeners, I can honestly say the plants were delivered in excellent condition and, one week later, are growing well despite some having been pulled up twice by marauding blackbirds who were tempted by the dark & damp compost.
