Growing Calendar for Salix Tree - Flamingo
Delivery: Early November to Late June
Creates seasonal interest for all months of the year. Train this colour-rich shrub for one-year old stems that boast beautiful three-tone leaves of pink, green and white and bright red coloration which looks simply sublime in winter sun.
It’s easy to train your shrub like this- in February cut all stems to about 7-8cm (3 in) from the ground and add a generous layer of mulch around the plant.
In spring, the beautiful tricolor leaves emerge, decorating vertical and tidy red stems, making it an excellent tree for the garden, planted in a border or a large container if you only have a small garden or balcony.
In winter, the leaves fall and reveal bright red stems which practically gleam and create gorgeous silhouettes in the winter sun.
Consider planting bulbs beneath to complete a lovely spring display. Pink tulips and hyacinths works wonders with the emerging young pink leaves.
Willows enjoy moist soils, so this variety works well even in soils that suffer from bad drainage.
Unpack bare root trees immediately and plant as soon as possible after delivery.
Do not let the roots dry out!
If it is not possible to plant because soil is waterlogged or frozen keep the trees somewhere frost free and airy. Keep the roots just moist by storing them in damp compost or if outside conditions allow, heel the trees in to a patch of bare ground until you’re ready to plant them into their permanent positions.
Your bare root trees will be delivered at the right time for planting. Normally between autumn and early spring, depending on weather conditions.
If you want to add height to your garden and increase the vertical interest consider planting a tree in your garden. There are trees particularly suited for gardens which don’t grow out of proportion to your property or develop too thick a canopy that blocks out sunlight.
