Growing Calendar for Salix Kilmarnock Weeping Willow Tree
Delivery: Early November to Late June
A willow tree for all seasons- gorgeous colour and form. The perfect tree for the gardener that’s short on space, wants a focal tree for a sunny patio or balcony, or wants a small tree with the graceful habit of a weeping willow.
This variety boasts beautiful catkins in spring. They start off as pretty and tactile furry buds and open out to bright, cherry yellow catkins. When the leaves appear after the catkins in spring and summer the tree in clothed in lovely- lime green leaves that contrast well with the chestnut-coloured weeping stems.
In autumn the leaves change colour to a soft buttery-yellow and when winter is with us the stems look gorgeous frosted or with snow and the silhouette is sublime. Grow in a large container or in open soil that is moist – being a willow it will thrive even in soil that is badly drained.
If it is not possible to plant because soil is waterlogged or frozen keep the trees somewhere frost free and airy. Keep the roots just moist by storing them in damp compost or if outside conditions allow, heel the trees in to a patch of bare ground until you’re ready to plant them into their permanent positions.Normally between autumn and early spring, depending on weather conditions.
Age of tree at despatch: 2
Height at full growth: 1.5m/5ft
Most of our trees are delivered as bare rooted specimens with approximate height of: 3.5ft - 5ft / 105cm - 140cm depending on the variety.
In order to ensure a good pollination pick fruit trees from within the same or from adjacent flowering groups.
The vast majority of the trees we ship have been pruned and will appear trimmed.
As mentioned in previous section seemed rather smaller than expected
A good healthy specimen, thriving now it has been re-homed here.
If you want to add height to your garden and increase the vertical interest consider planting a tree in your garden. There are trees particularly suited for gardens which don’t grow out of proportion to your property or develop too thick a canopy that blocks out sunlight.
