Great if you want decorative plants that are also productive. They will grow in a smaller tub than climbers, so very useful if space is limited. Also, they are low growing, so much less prone to wind damage. Would definitely choose Hestia for balcony or roof gardening.

Runner Bean Hestia (Dwarf) Seeds 1030-3178

Stringless beans on dwarf bushy plants, with red and white flowers.

Sow Indoors: April-May, singly in clean pots or modules of compost 2in (5cm) deep. Water well.

Sow Outdoors: May-June direct into the required harvest position, 2in (5cm) deep, 8in (20cm) apart in double rows 8in (20cm) apart. Leave 18in (46cm) between each double row. Can also be planted in containers on the patio. Keep soil moist at all times.

Plant Out: Indoor raised crops in June, when fear of frost has passed and soil has started to warm, or into patio pots, or containers.

Harvest: July-September

Pick young for best flavour. Plants do not need support.
