Rootrainers - 32 Cells

We've improved our Rootrainers to now include a durable lid which can be used to create a mini propagator.

Each cell opens to avoid root disturbance when transplanting.

They can be used to propagate a wide range of flower and vegetable seeds without disturbing their roots when you plant them out.

The end result are young plants with extremely healthy, strong root systems which rarely need potting on.

Reusable 32 cell tray & propagation lid.

Cell Depth: 12cm.

Excellent product! With careful use I find that I can use these each several times before replacing. They are great if you're short of space and take a minimum of compost to produce great seedlings. If you're taking small plants out into the garden or to the allotment they're very compact and easy to transport so your plants are more likely to arrive undamaged. Altogether I find that they're well ... [ more ]

I used these many years ago when they first came out and was very impressed. However having bought replacements since I agree with Kath Smycki, they are not good value for money as the plastic is very flimsy and far more brittle than previous. They do a great job, it's just a shame about the quality......they would get 5 stars if they changed the manufacture!

I use Rootrainers each season for germinating my sweet peas in December/January. I find they last around 5-6 years before needing to be replaced. They produce really strong roots and by mid-Jan I nip the tops out so that the strongest shoot grows on and I grow them on in a cool greenhouse slowly, removing any side shoots and planting out at the end of March. Fantastic product.

I was disappointed. It does encourage longer roots but I found the cells are flimsy and don’t hold well together, don’t fit well in the frame and are prone to cracking being so thin. Not a good value for the money. I now wish I’d purchased this when it was first developed as I’m sure the quality was better.

I would certainly not be without my Rootrainers. But why can't you buy 'refill' packs of the inserts? The cage is virtually indestructible, but the inserts can only be used a couple of times even with care.

My success rate in germinating and planting out more "difficult" vegetables and plants with Rootrainers has improved significantly. Only problem is friends keep borrowing them so I'm having to buy more. Great product!
