Potentilla fruticosa 'Chelsea Star', like some other Potentilla, has intensely bright yellow star-shaped flowers which are produced from early summer through to autumn. These flowers have a pale green star in their centres, which really stand out against the golden yellow. ‘Chelsea Star’ is dwarf shrub that is suitable for low maintenance beds and borders. This is a very cheery plant which when given a moist well-draining soil in sun or part-shade, will perform very well.
Dig a hole large and deep enough to take the plant’s root ball.
Gently tap the plant out of its pot without disturbing the soil around the roots.
Position the plant at the bottom of the hole so the plant’s crown is level with the surface and sits at the same depth as it was in the pot; make sure the roots are in direct contact with the soil.
Backfill with the excavated soil and firm in gently. Water to settle the soil around the roots.
Shrubs are easy-care plants getting better every year with the minimum of fuss.
Watering: Water regularly in the first few weeks after planting and then make sure the plants are kept moist in dry spells.
Feeding: Give shrubs a boost with a handful of granular feed hoed into the soil in spring.
Pruning: Prune Potentilla ‘Chelsea Star’ if necessary after flowering to maintain its shape.
On established plants cut out any congested stems.

Shrubs offer visual interest all year round – whether in full leaf, full bloom or with bare stems set against the winter sky.
If you want to add height to your garden and increase the vertical interest consider planting a tree in your garden. There are trees particularly suited for gardens which don’t grow out of proportion to your property or develop too thick a canopy that blocks out sunlight.
