Photinia x fraseri ‘Louise’ is a fully hardy and extremely colourful variegated evergreen shrub which can be used as an informal hedge or as a specimen shrub in containers or borders. Named after the daughter of the breeder ‘Louise’ has attractive pink and red variegated shoots when young and provides colour all year. When the leaves mature the variegation changes to a green and cream. This Photinia is wonderful because it’ll produce up to three spurts of new shoots each season giving you a fresh burst of pink and red variegation. An easy to maintain shrub.
Dig a hole large and deep enough to take the plant’s root ball.
Gently tap the plant out of its pot without disturbing the soil around the roots.
Position the plant at the bottom of the hole so the plant’s crown is level with the surface and sits at the same depth as it was in the pot; make sure the roots are in direct contact with the soil.
Backfill with the excavated soil and firm in gently. Water to settle the soil around the roots.
Shrubs are easy-care plants getting better every year with the minimum of fuss.
Watering: Water regularly in the first few weeks after planting and then make sure the plants are kept moist in dry spells.
Feeding: Give shrubs a boost with a handful of granular feed hoed into the soil in spring.
Pruning: If necessary prune Photinia ‘Louise’ lightly in spring or summer to encourage the new, brightly coloured young growth.
