This rather unusual looking ‘stripy' pear has just been released in the U.K.

It originates from Ukraine where it is known as the ‘Easter Pear'
as it is traditionally stored through the winter and used as a table decoration before eating at Easter-tide to celebrate the onset of spring.

The flesh is both sweet and juicy and also cooks nicely.

I planted a Humbug tree in the garden last year (even the young bark is stripey!) and I am looking forward to some delicious pears. The tree seems hardy as it survived a rather gruelling first winter.
