Marrowfat pea, a good old fashioned favourite. Use for making mushy peas or use as dried peas in stews and casseroles.

They can also be eaten fresh when young and have a floury texture.

For dried peas, pick when the pods and plants are dried and papery.

At last the gardener's answer for top quality mushy peas. The flavour can best be compared to the difference between shop bought new potatoes and ones from your own garden. Truly amazing and the perfect accompaniment to fish and pies. Easy to grow although the drying can be problematic. Guidance on the harvesting and drying would make a useful addition to the packet

A great variety - I've been growing them for the last 2 years. The plants are strong and reliable and the peas make fabulous mushies. I was really surprised how good they taste 'un-mushed' as well - really sweet and not as floury as you might expect. I heartily recommend them.

Height: 36in (90cm)

Sow Outdoors: April-June in a flat bottomed trench 2in (5cm) deep, 8in (20cm) wide. Water the trench and scatter seeds so that they land 3in (7.5cm) apart. Carefully back fill the trench and firm lightly. Keep soil moist at all times.

Grow On: Support plants as they grow with netting and sticks.

Harvest: June-September

For dried peas allow the pods to mature on the stem.
