Tough by name tough by nature. Sowed this variety last September, in soil which had no preparation and did not cover with fleece. Then the snow came thought that was that, but no come June a harvest of fantastic onions, will buy again
I've grown these for three successive years and have only had one "bolter". They have survived temperatures of -8C without failing, all in all, a superb onion which can grow to tennis ball size. It says on the packet "do not transplant", well I did, without a problem (but don't sow too early if you're going to do that).
Top quality overwintering onion with disease resistance.
Sow Outdoors: June-September thinly ½in (1cm) deep in rows 12in (30cm) apart in fine friable soil. Keep soil moist at all times.
Thin Out: Thin to 6in (15cm) apart. Do not transplant. Use only as an overwintering onion - not for spring sowing.
Harvest: June, when tops start to dry off.
Liquid feed during summer.

August is primarily about harvesting your crops, but there are still some vegetables that can be sown and planted out!
