Did you know: That Onion Red Florence is classed as a "Banana Shallot". This term is often used by cooks to describe the long bulb varieties of onions and shallots. It is more of a cooking term than one used by gardeners.

Purchased a bunch of Long Red Florence Onions from my local Farmers Market today (grown by Mr.Mew,of Chale).A very attractive,sweet, mild onion.Easy to prepare,and different to the round varieties.Highly recommended.
Elongated bulbs with a red skin and mild sweet flavour.
Sow Indoors: January-March 5 seeds per module under glass.
Sow Outdoors: February-March thinly into pre watered soil ½in (1cm) deep in rows 12in (30cm) apart. Keep soil moist at all times.
Plant Out: April the little clumps of bulbs in each module will push themselves apart as they grow.
Harvest: August-September for casseroles or pull young as spring onions.
Liquid feed during summer.
