Old Fashioned Greengage - Tree

  • Catalogue Code 1070-5592
  • Pack Contents: 1 bare root tree

The Old Green Gage is considered to be the definitive ‘gage’ variety, it is often considered to be the best tasting of any plum variety available.

It was described by a Victorian fruit enthusiast named Robert Hogg as being “Tender, melting, and very juicy, with a rich, sugary and most delicious flavour”. H.V Taylor the author of ‘The Plums of England’ in 1949 rates the Greengage as being “for all purposes unsurpassed”.

When compared to the attractive deep maroon colouring of most other plums, the appearance of the Old Green Gage fruit appears fairly boring, the plums are fairly small and are a plain green colour, they turn to a more attractive yellow when they are ripe.

If you are looking for a plum that has excellent flavour for both eating fresh and for use in cooking this variety is unbeatable.

This Old Fashioned Greengage variety has a delicious sweet, rich flavoured with translucent flesh. There is no wonder this variety is described as the best greengage for excellent flavour!

This brilliant variety has RHS Award of Garden Merit and is self-fertile.
