Mulberry Tree: King James (syn. Morus nigra Chelsea)

  • Catalogue Code 1070-5635
  • Pack Contents: 1 bare root Tree

The subject of nursery rhymes yet our Mulberry has an even more distinguished history!

Our stock is derived from a famous old tree planted in London's Chelsea Physic Garden under order from King James I.

Although the tree was lost in the last war, cuttings were taken in time to enable the line to continue.

Subsequently the trees were planted by Churchill at Hatfield House in Hertfordshire and also to commemorate the Queen's coronation as well as stocks kept for future planting up to present times.

Although capable of great longevity Mulberries are worth a space in any garden for their soft, succulent foliage and sweet and juicy purple fruits.
