You don't need acres of land to produce a mouth-watering crop. Marshalls new range is aimed at the urban gardener, or anyone who loves the succulent taste of homegrown veg but lacks space. Not only that, it's a great way to encourage kids to start growing - and eating - healthy veg.
Baby Sweetcorn Mini pop F1
Bred especially to produce mini corn – the succulent Mini pop F1 produces three to five cobs per plant. Pick them before the tassels appear on the cobs and they will be even sweeter. Cobs are so tender they can be eaten raw. (One packet £1.45).
TRY IT! Baby Sweetcorn in a Pot
Chose a container with a minimum depth of 20cm (8in). Place in a sunny spot. From sowing to harvest is 12 to 17 weeks. Remember to mulch the pots with gravel or woodchip.
Baby Aubergine Ophelia
Our most delicious baby aubergine yet. Not only does the Ophelia taste great, it's purple flowers look stunning. This baby-fruited variety will produce an abundance of beautiful, glossy, dark purple fruits of around 50-60g each. The plants are compact – great for beginners and kids. (One packet £2.45).
TRY IT! Aubergines on a Windowsill
Aubergines are great for sunny windowsills or a conservatory because, outside, they require a long growing season. The minimum container depth is 20cm (8in). Liquid feed as the first fruits swell.
Leek Edison
A real 'gourmet' leek. Harvest the Edison when young and use it as an unusual and deliciously sweet 'baby' vegetable. It’s so tender you can even grill it! Because of its cold tolerance you can allow it to mature and it will stand in the garden, or pots, from October through to February. (One packet £2.95).
TRY IT! Leeks on a patio
For best results use a rich loam compost. Sow seeds in short rows in Spring in a container with a minimum depth of 20cm (8in). When the leeks are 10cm (4in) long replant them in prepared holes 15cm (6in) deep.
