Markies Seed Potatoes (Maincrop)

£6.95 each

2 £5.95 each

A recently introduced variety that is high yielding and has excellent all round resistance to disease, particularly potato viruses.

A good all-rounder, suitable for baking, boiling and roasting.

But it's as a chipping potato that it excels and is considered by some 'chippies' to be even better than Maris Piper - now that's some recommendation.

A very strong yield, and drought tolerant. These are very white main crop potatoes, with a floury texture. We have found them to be ideal for mashing, sautes, and as a roasting potato. Interestingly, these cook easily, but stay quite pale coloured, and don't take on a golden colour as some do when roasted. However, the colouring would just be cosmetic, as the taste is delicious.

By far the best chipping potato that I have ever grown, far superior to Maris Piper ( and that is saying something) also they seemed to tolerate the drought better than any other of the 4 varieties that I grew this year, the sample was much biggerthan any of the others . They did exhibit a little bit of powdery scab but that is only cosmetic anyway. I am growing them for the table not for exhibition.
