Growing Calendar for Jasminum nudiflorum - Winter jasmine- Shrub
Delivery: Early October to Late April
Jasminum nudiflorum-Winter Jasmine. This winter-flowering shrub is perfect for covering a wall, or to scramble down banks or spill over low walls. The starry yellow flowers appear on bright green stems during the darkest months of the year, flowering even in the depths of winter to brighten up the garden. Tie the stems in to trellis or train them along wires to clothe walls.
Grow winter jasmine in any reasonably fertile, well drained soil in a sunny or part shaded position. Winter jasmine is tolerant of most soils and positions.
Dig a hole large and deep enough to take the plant’s root ball.
Gently tap the plant out of its pot without disturbing the soil around the roots.
Position the plant in the hole so the plant’s crown is level with the surface and sits at the same depth as it was in the pot; make sure the roots are in direct contact with the soil.
Backfill with the excavated soil and firm in gently.
Water to settle the soil around the roots.
Watering: Water regularly in the first few weeks after planting but don’t overwater. The plants will send their roots down in search of moisture as they grow.
Feeding: Give plants a boost if necessary with a handful of granular feed hoed into the soil in spring.
Pruning: Prune flowering stems of winter jasmine in spring, after flowering. Cut back to strong buds low down on the plant. Cut out any old unproductive stems to rejuvenate congested plants.

Plant looks healthy and seems to have taken OK. Still waiting to see how it grows on and flowers.
Shrubs offer visual interest all year round – whether in full leaf, full bloom or with bare stems set against the winter sky.
If you want to add height to your garden and increase the vertical interest consider planting a tree in your garden. There are trees particularly suited for gardens which don’t grow out of proportion to your property or develop too thick a canopy that blocks out sunlight.
