Have grown these for 5 years on heavy clay soils and I think they're the best early, if not the earliest. A good yield of new potatoes each time. They like a bit of insulation from the cold clay so a good bedding of newspaper, shredded bank statements and egg cartons warms their toes in late March/ early April.
Over the last two seasons, these have become our favourite potato variety. If you're hoping for that unique taste, you are rewarded if you dig early. However the surprise is when you let them grow on - they mature to nicely shaped, good sized and densely textured spuds that make fantastic chips early in the season. They keep well, and possibly because of their relative hardness they are hardly attacked by those voracious little black slugs that burrow into other potatoes. Try them!
