Growing Calendar for Hydrangea macrophylla Magical Coral x1
Delivery: Early May to Early July
So-named for the lovely aqua-marine shades of the flower heads as they come up in early summer and last right into autumn when the flower colours slowly mellow. This easy- grow hydrangea variety, happy in large pots or beds, puts up a wealth of pom-pom flower-heads year on year.
Bred for compact, strong flowers, these fully-hardy hydrangeas thrive in moist soils in any part of the garden that doesn’t get full sun. Just water in, and add some fertiliser or bulky compost around the plants. They’ll then burst into growth and flower profusely.
Hydrangeas are ideal for the back of the border, growing well in moist soils. They enjoy damp conditions so light up the garden even in the wettest summer. Grow them as a fitting backdrop to your herbaceous perennials and summer bedding.
They look gorgeous as cut flowers too for bringing colour indoors. To extend the seasonal interest leave some flowerheads on the plants over winter where they’ll look gorgeous touched by frost.
