Flower Sprout Plants

  • Catalogue Code 1080-5710

The first BRAND NEW VEGETABLE for nearly 10 Years!

We are constantly striving to bring you the best in vegetable breeding and when we first saw this exciting new variety at trials 4 years ago, we knew that we had to have it!

We have been eagerly waiting (actually we've been eagerly chasing it every year since we first saw it!) for the extensive trials to finish. It has taken 10 years to develop and for enough seed to be available to offer our customers.

Flower sprout has been bred by crossing curly kale with brussles sprout to create a brand new vegetbale. It has a sprout-like plant habit, a tall stem with little pruple and green rosettes (looking like miniature cabbages) forming all the way up to a frilly-leaved top. The purple colour intensifies as the weather turns colder.

It is extremely winter-hardy, with a similar cropping time to sprouts but with a flavour more like spring greens. The loose buttons are easy to pick and is an ideal winter vegetable, it can be steam, stir fried or microwaved.

These were planted last year. We have had one of the hardest winters and the flower sprouts are the only veg. plant still standing and they have cropped all winter. We had a meal off them last Sunday(06/02/2011) I blanched then stir-fried them, they were delicious. Even people who dislike brussels sprouts like these. Can't reccommend them highly enough, just ordered our plants for this year. The best new veg. in years.
