Growing Calendar for Erythronium dens canis - Dog's Tooth Violets - Bulbs (tubers)
Delivery: Late September to Late November
Erythronium are commonly called Dog's tooth violets because the shape of the tubers resembles a canine tooth. This Erythronium bulb grows to produce spurred mauve-pink graceful flowers on slender stems, that rise above the large, heavily mottled, marbled leaves. Appearing in Spring, Erythronium bulbs are shade loving plants that make excellent groundcover under trees or shrubs and in shaded woodland borders. Alternatively, you can plant these erythronium bulbs in a pot or a planter. They add colour and interest with showy leaves and dainty flowers, and are pollinated by bees as well as insects. This erythronium is a European native plant.
These erythronium have won the RHS award of Garden Merit (AGM) as excellent garden plants.
